Leadership First was born out of an idea to inspire leaders into creating a great work environment, where everyone can be happy. For a number of years, I have found that a lot of people are disengaged at their job. A lot people indicated that work is simply a place to get money to pay bills, their mortgages and their car loans etc. No purpose, no passion just simply going to work every day for the past 20 years just doing enough to stay on their job to pay their bills.
From my own experiences, I started off really well, enjoying my job but the environment slowly erase that drive and work became a place of dread and despair.
I often ask myself "can I ever be happy at work." Seriously, I asked myself that question, only to find out that there are some people who not only like their job, but love their work and are extremely happy to go to work on a Monday morning. This was surreal because Mondays was a difficult time for me to get out of bed. So I decided to look into these companies, what were they doing so differently that allow their employees to get so excited about work.
What I found totally blew my mind. Apart from the perks, these organizations have a genuine love for their employees and their leaders strive to create an environment that allows for the very best to come out of them.
For example, when I was first introduced to the fortune 500 best companies to work for, immediately I found my purpose. The fact that some companies follow the basic principles of purpose, trust, values, culture, employee engagement, communication, etc. really ignited a fire in my soul to help other leaders understand and apply these principles to their leadership.
So I decided to start Leadership First, a blog dedicated to these fundamentals. I believe passionately in this because I have seen and experience the adverse effects of defective and deceptive leadership. Some people have the belief that this is the norm. That you must lead with intimidation and fear in order to get results. There are some people who don’t know any different and believe their own narrative of what leadership should be.
Everyone should and can enjoy their work but it must start with the leadership first. I believe in this passionately and I will continue to research and published the very best articles focus on the fundamentals that will allow every leader to become great.
Thanks to all of our loyal subscribers and our contributors who have supported Leadership First during our first 7 months in existence. We will make mistakes along the way, but we will continue to strive to help every employee enjoy their job and inspire all leaders into creating a great organization.
